Being a Mommy Takes Ninja Mind Tricks

When my son is trying to do something he is not supposed to (e.g., smush all the toothpaste out of the tube), he gets very quiet.

So then I go check on him.

I quietly approach him.

He has his back to me.

I say quietly, "What are you doing?"

Parker stands still. He looks over his shoulder. He whispers in a menacing tone:

"Go away."

I always laugh.

So, the other day, I decided to use his own trick on him.

He was nagging, as small children do, while I was cooking dinner. It was annoying. I looked over at him over my shoulder.

"Go away," I said in a quiet, menacing voice.

"Uugghh!" he scoffed at me.

When it was dinnertime, my boy said:

"I sit by Daddy. Mommy is being cranky at me."

Whatever works.

my wife gets on to me when I complain about my daughters being mean ir grumpy. She always says "when they come to you, then get over yourself and take their attention".

Kids are weird but they're honest.

Too funny! Can't wait to tell all my younger "mommy" friends about your blog (which I found through your comment on Mrs Tuna).

Bwahahaha! "Mommy is being cranky at me."

Now I'm tempted to try this approach with Li'l D. :)

I get that all the time. "Mommy is being cranky" or "Mommy is mad at me." Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one that disciplines in this house (even my mom has become a softy). Oh well...it DOES stop their whining and complaining, which you're right...is ANNOYING.

Love it! I've been known to use my sons' tactics on them too.

lol! I've always heard that when kids are too quiet, they're up to no good. "Go away" I use that line on the dog all the time, but so far he doesn't get it.
