An Ornament is a Piece of History

Only a few of my favorites:

(Please forgive the quality of photo. No matter how many times or settings I tried, I just could not get a fab pic out of our camera. Hmphf.)

A grad school friend gave this to me many years ago and ever since she has always had a top spot on our tree. There is just something about her that makes her one of my favorites. Always.

I received this ornament on my wedding day. It was June 26, 1999. My mom, grandma, and I were having lunch in downtown Flagstaff, Arizona, after I had my hair done. My grandma gave this to me at lunch.

This is an old classic, a family ornament. I wonder what year it was made and bought? I only remember it always having a place on my tree as I grew up. A simple, little nativity.

I bet no one else in the world has this ornament, or one like it, on their tree. My friend gave this to me when I was pregnant. It was a gift tag, but I tie it on my tree every year because I like to look at it and laugh. It says, "Mama," up above the picture. Below the picture, it says, "Sometimes I'm just not into this mothering thing at all."

What are your favorite ornaments and what pieces of history do they give to you?

we don't have a tree yet :(

I two ornaments that look like sparkly snowflakes. They hung on my parent's tree, and as a little girl I remember staring at them twinkling in the lights, and thinking they were the most beautiful things I'd ever seen.

My favourite ornament is a snowman my girlfriend gave to me several years ago. It's white with dangly arms and legs but it has hippy style flowers and colour flu swirls "tatooed" on it. No matter what, every year when I take it out of the box it makes me smile and I always have to display it in some prominent place on my tree.

okay not colour flu.. I meant colourful. what can I say? It's getting past my bed time. ;)

We have a reindeer that sings. I bought it long ago for a Christmas in a hotel in Penang (before we were married - never mind kids) It comes out every year and really reminds of great times and why I love 'the boss' ...

I love your ornaments and their meaning.
I don't have many that are very old. Some of the oldest are from highschool...that's when we started picking out an ornament every year.
My ornaments are all birds because my grandmother, who moved away when I was five, had birds on her tree. I have some favorites just because they are so pretty or so different.
Now I'm getting an ornament for my daughter every year and as she gets older, we'll make some each year too. She should have a nice collection by the time she gets married :)

I wanted to stop by and thank you for visiting my blog on my SITS day, I appreciate it.

Great ornaments! My favs are the one we picked up on our honeymoon, the one I 'got' to buy when KLV was a baby and the ones that we don't hang on the tree b/c of KLV that I painted with my siblings when we were young.

I love these ornaments! My favorite ornaments are the handmade ones my kids have brought home from school with wide-eyed grins. Those mean the most to me. :)

I love those ornaments, especially the last one. I would get a huge kick out of seeing the 'mama' one on my Christmas tree!

Kristy, thank you so much for visiting me from SITS. So great to meet you! What a beautiful post, and way to share some of your memories and history. It's wonderful the way a Christmas tree is a collection of so many memories and makes us think of people who've been a part of our lives. In that way, even a cut-down or plastic tree really "LIVES". Have a very Merry Christmas! Warmest wishes, Jenn
