Adventure, Danger, and Intrigue Await

“Then the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was greater than the risk it took to blossom.” –Anais Nin

Adventure is not my middle name, people. However, I am on the cusp of many adventures. The word alone sends shivers down my spine. I’ll never forget walking down our neighborhood street with my husband when I was 9 months pregnant. Our neighbor shouted, “Looks like you’re getting close to having the baby! Get ready for the adventure of your lives!” At the time, I truly had no idea what he was talking about. I thought that the word ‘adventure’ was a positive, fun way to describe what we were in for. Well, needless to say that once the adventure of motherhood began, we’ve been on a roller coaster ever since!

So, I tend to tread lightly around adventure and look at it with suspicious eyes. This is why, when my friend e-mailed me to ask if I would like to attend a Zumba class, I promptly replied, “Stop it. You’re stressing me out.”

Now we are preparing for a mighty trip, and I am truly amazed that I have not yet begun a stress-induced coma or manic OCD planning. Well, to be honest, I do have seven pages of lists made so far, but that, to me, is not OCD. That’s just smart.

In a couple of weeks, we will drive about 10 hours to Flagstaff, Arizona. We will then stay in a hotel room and share a king-sized bed with our two-year old maniac. Then, we will push on to Phoenix where we will prepare for a trip to Mexico with my mom, brother, and niece. Off to Mexico we go for a stay at a beach resort! Then, we return to Phoenix for a couple of nights. My husband will drive home alone. The two-year old maniac and I will fly (in a plane, yes) from Phoenix to Denver (I REFUSE to drive the 12+ trip with the two-year old maniac EVER AGAIN). Hubby will pick us up in Denver. We will drive for about one and a half hours until we are HOME.

Are we crazy? Yes. Are we stupid? Absolutely. Will we have fun? We better, or…Or, I don’t know what. We just better have some real f***ing fun is all I’m saying.

And, by the way. I plan on doing Zumba too. It is time to blossom.

You HAVE to tell me how Zumba goes. I have been wanting to try it, but have no one to go with me. I am a freak about things like doing new stuff by myself. I am SO glad that you are going to try this though.

Also, I SO wish that we could afford for me and Monkey to fly to New Orleans this Friday, but no dice. So, we are driving overnight so Monkey and Mouse will both sleep. Or that is the plan anyway. Not sure what we will do when we leave the following Saturday morning to head home. Maybe I will keep her up all night Friday night. :)

You are completely insane! Now, Keep in mind I am Australian, and also keep in mind that I did a trip across the USA on the WRONG side of the road with my parents and (now)husband long before kids. It was 1996. All I can say is "beware of the false dawn". It seems my mums only dream in life was to see the Grand Canyon at dawn. But we stuffed up. Apparently we were in a new time zone. Who knew? We were getting far too drunk every night to take note of the time differences. As we drove towards the Canyon (from Flagstaff) and watched the sun rise without us, we saw my Mum start to cry and my Dad pat her saying "don't worry mate, it's just the false dawn". Of course it wasn't and we'd stuffed up big time. Ahhhh, but the memories.
Hope you have a stress free trip, with lots of memories and no false dawns.

Mexican beach resort sounds delicious. Two year old maniacs require much careful planning, only seven pages of lists sounds to me like you may have forgotten something. Did you remember the portable DVD player and the antihistamine?

Zumba is fun! I look like a total spazz doing it, but that's only because I lack grace. :)
We have yet to take all three of our little ones on a big trip. We go to the beach every summer, but we've never made a really long drive or flown with all three. I hope you have a ton of fun on your trip!!

I watch the chicks at my gym doing Zumba ... interesting. I'll stick to the treadmill. Have fun on your adventure.

Best of luck to you! I can't imagine such an adventure. My kids have never been good at car rides longer than 30 minutes.

Maintain low expectations. That's how I make sure I have fun at almost everything.

Also, I have no idea what zumba is so I am way less adventurous than you.

Oh i know the feeling of having mishaps during adventure trips. After all the series of misfortunes that happened to me side by side with fun, it was something that we laugh about. At least weve got funny stories to tell in the future..... Good luck on your trip!! Stopping by from SITS!

Oh, my! My hat is off to you - we are planning a one-week trip up to the Polish Baltic Sea with my Mom and brother. I hope that things will go OK, as it's out first ever family vacation, and with two kids under the age of 4, it may go either way. But at least I will have imported reinforcements ;)

For the record, I'm still scared of Zumba. Have a great time. I'm jealous of your trip. I just took the kids to a hotel while we were shooting our pilot and they all did great. I have faith in you!

Lots of yummy love,
