"F Bombs Help you Live Longer"

You all know that I watch some quality TV programming, right? My shows tend to fall into two general categories:

1. Reality TV (which also includes the fabulous reality TV SPIN-OFF shows)

2. Paid cable TV shows that are full of the naughty stuff

To give you just a sampling of what I get shamelessly excited about:

The crazy bitches on The “Real” Housewives of (insert city here). And, yes, they are ALL crazy bitches.

Bethenny Getting Married? (She’s still a crazy bitch, but in a good way.)

Bachelor/Bachelorette (I don’t know when people who go on this show will realize that it doesn’t really work for them.)

Bachelor Pad (Pure entertainment.)

Survivor (The CLASSIC reality competition TV show)

Big Brother (I haven’t yet been bothered enough by the fact that it is the same show every season just with different bodies.)

Nurse Jackie (Addiction + Adultery = AWESOME TV!)

Californication (Cursing, nudity, and sex. Yessss.)

Weeds (Drugs and Dramady!)

United States of Tara (Guess what? This chick has multiple personalities, and when she needed a therapist, well…she just became one! Talk about multi-tasking.)

Also (some honorable mentions): Teen Mom, Intervention, The Real World, Jersey Shore, Last Comic Standing, Project Runway (or, Project WunWay, as my husband likes to imitate Heidi Klum), etc. There are others, but these are, clearly, the STAND OUTS.

Naturally, I would be exposed to some pretty inspirational thoughts and ideas after watching some of the above. But there are a few, key quotes that I have particularly enjoyed this week that I’d love to share with you.

“F bombs help you live longer.” – Kathy Griffin (My Life on the D List)

“Word to your mother.” – Bethenny Frankel (Bethenny Getting Married, upon learning that she could drink her beer while breastfeeding.)

“I hate floaters.” - Interestingly enough, this has been heard on MULTIPLE shows. And, taken out of context, could have many meanings, which is why it has potential to be such a fun phrase.

"How about a new show called Family Medication Swap?" - from Last Comic Standing (I am sorry, I do not remember which comic said it. It was actually one of the judges, and I do not remember his name.)

Some may wonder why I expose myself to such...fluffy...shit (for lack of a better word). Some may think, "Geez, Kristy, you are so smart. Like genius smart. Why do you watch that stuff?"

Simply, it makes me laugh. It puts a smile on my face. I shake my head and give a low chuckle. I believe that it is very important, indeed, to be entertained and laugh every day.

So, how about you? What has inspired you this week? What quality TV programming do you indulge in? What entertains you and makes you laugh?

You are a girl after my own heart - I die for reality TV. Really anything Bravo:) Bethenny is my hero, I want to be Caroline Manzo's friend, and I'd like to see Kelly Bensimon and Danielle Staub locked up in a loony bin.

I tend to get a little too invested in my TV...

Bachelor Pad is so very bad and SO very good. It's an acceptable replacement for the Bachelor/Bachelorette in the off season. And come on, Ali and Roberto seem like they might actually make it...maybe.
I also love Biggest Loser. It makes me work out harder every Wednesday! And What Not to Wear. Seeing those people and the way they dress "before" makes me feel better about my fashion sense! Basically, any of the reality shows make me feel just a little better about myself.

Now if they would only create a show called "My 3 Year Old Won't Stop Pooping His Pants"...THAT would be some programming I could relate to. ;)

Meghan, I agree with everything you said. Now, lock up Kelly B. and Danielle Staub with Amber and Gary from Teen Mom (AND, how about Heidi and Spencer!) THEN you've got a loony bin!!!

Finding My Weigh - I knew I would forget some shows. Love those too!

I'm totally with you on this. Weeds, True Blood, and Entourage got me through all those night feeds.

I like watching The Soup. That way I can keep up with the reality shows without actually having to watch them.

I love Chuck (less this year than in the past), 30 Rock, Damages, and American Idol! Not real imaginative, but there you go...

I keep meaning to watch the United States of Tara and never quite getting there... My favorites include The Good Wife, Brothers and Sisters and Criminal Minds.

Not much of a TV watcher in general...but every now and then you just can't pass up the opportunity to watch True Beauty or Dating in the Dark.

You just can't.

I'm a big fan of Dr. Phil and the Bachelor. Now I'm getting into the Bachelor Pad. Oh, and sometimes I watch the stuff on TLC like Kate Plus 8 or Say Yes to the Dress. I don't remember any funny or inspirational quotes, but now you've encouraged me to listen for them. Yes, I think there can be lessons learned from reality TV-including "F Bombs help you live longer." (lol)

We all need entertainment and to be able to 'switch off' and not have to think. They do produce some priceless comments. Having said that, I don't watch any of those shows.
I'm a 'Modern Family' kinda girl. Makes me feel normal.

You are so funny! I have not seen anything lately. I usually watch movies if I get the chance. Your comment about the Bachelor and Bachelorette is so true. Has anyone stayed together? Have a great night!

I love Big Brother SO MUCH. It never gets old. I just started watching Weeds. I'm on the first season. Do you watch True Blood or Dexter? They're dirty, but so good!

OMG. I can't do reality TV. I know I know. I am totally out of the loop. Oh, hang on, there is one I watch ... um .... wait for it ... Tori and Dean.
Yep, I am a 90210 reject who can't stop stalking Donna ...

I don't tend to watch the network shows. I prefer those on TLC, Discovery, ANYTHING on the Discovery Health Channel, History, and Travel channels.

You listed so many shows here and I haven't seen a single one of them! It sounds to me like I need to do more TV watching!

Currently, I'm obsessed with all things The Office. I only started watching it a few weeks ago (why wasn't I watching this hilarious show before?!) so I have hundreds of new episodes available :)

Sister, you have me beat. Which is amazing bc I think I am the (formerly) undisputed QUEEN of Reality TV. I have no right to complain about how busy I am raising my kids when I could tell you the central characters in roughly 12 reality tv shows. Nothing is too trashy.

Do you watch the Real World?

Bachelor Pad. Good God. I can feel my brain shrinking as I view.

Just. can't. look. away.

OMG. I am addicted to the Kardashians. I know. It's awful, but I LOVE IT!!!

It is SCARY to think that I have remembered others that I watch as I read through your comments: Real World, Dating in the Dark, Celebrity Rehab, Sober House (which really should be called un-sober house), and sometimes So you think you can dance and American Idol (but both of those take a high amount of commitment).

We watch some of the same TV and others on your list I haven't watched. Big Brother is my never miss summer show. I've watched every season...which is a lot of talk about floaters!

Those Housewives shows are like crack! It's so embarassing, but I always say "oh that one looks so lame" and then I will hit some marathon, and it gets Tivo Season Pass status. I have issues. Good to know I'm not alone!!!
