Suburban Friendship

Through the slats of the fence in our backyard, we could hear, “Hey, psst! Hey, buddy!”

Another little boy was trying to communicate with my son. It was cute. This other boy lives on the opposite side of us, not next door, so my son can’t just pop on over and see him. They have talked with each other before. I have no idea what this boy looks like or what his family is like, so it’s hard to know how to continue with a possible friendship.

It was getting close for dinner time, so I called my son in to the table.

Then we could hear again in a loud whisper, “Hey! Buddy! Come back to this spot when you’re done with dinner, K?”

“OK!” My son shouted and ran inside.

Then, my husband and I couldn’t help but have fun with it.

“Psst, hey, buddy! What do they feed you over there?”

“Hey, psst. Do they ever let you out over there?”

“Psst, hey, buddy! How much time you got left?”

This must be the budding of a suburban friendship through the slats of a backyard fence.

Awesome! We have a little boy living next door who's just about the age of the Babby but they refuse to talk to each other, hee.

You've got just the right photo for this story! Kids make friends so easily, don't they? They don't even need to see each other.

We have kids a few houses down from us. I just never know how to start friendships. I don't know if I'd feel comfortable having my son play at some house I don't know, maybe they feel the same way. Maybe they just would love to get rid of their kid for a little while. It's so hard knowing what to do.

That is so sweet... and so cute, too! I love it when the little ones makes "dates" to see each other again. I'm always so tickled when my two would tell me we have to take them to the clubhouse, because their friends (all below 6) told them that they should meet up there after school. :)

Very cute. Maybe you need to get to know the boy next door though. My 5 year old daughter had a similar 'relationship' with our next door neighbour and ended up inviting a 9 year old boy to a 'Pink Pamper' birthday party, unbeknownst to me or his mother!

That's so sweet! I once made a friend through our side fence, it was the neighbour's little kitten, and when they moved house they left him with us. I'm guessing you're safe - that won't happen to you guys LOL!

We don't have any children living on any sides of our yard, but we do have lots of animals. Our cats have befriended the dog behind us (really, they are pals!) and often peer through openings in the stockade fences at the cats on the other side.

So sweet, we have no neighbors but are moving to a neighborhood, I think my children may be in shock by all of the interaction.

Very cute. Maybe there's a life-long friendship being formed there.

SO CUTE!!!

In our old house my oldest (and only) son at the time made a friend across the street. Both homes had a huge front window so they would stand inside our homes and YELL at eachother through the windows! SO FUN!
