On Crude Humor and Judging Other Parents

I got to watch a movie – a real rated-R adult movie with no animation or singing by chipmunks! I had to watch said movie in three parts.

First during naptime, but then it was interrupted half-way through when my son was discovered awake, wandering the upstairs.

Then, I watched a little of it after work in my office because I refuse to return it to the damn Redbox unwatched. This is the second time I have rented this particular movie from a Redbox. The first time, I never got to see any of it before I returned it.

Renting a movie is a crap shoot. In our house, you never know if you’re going to get to watch it. I finally finished the movie while watching on my laptop at home with ear buds in my ears. But, hot damn, I finished it!

It was The Change-Up, and it was insanely, inappropriately hilarious! Have you seen it? Do you love crude humor as much as I do?

I was extremely grateful for all of the true and hearty LOLs it gave me.

There is this one line about parenting from the movie, and it goes something like this:

“If your children are ever misbehaving, they must be tired or hungry. If other people’s children are misbehaving, it’s because of negligent parenting or an inherent character flaw in the child.”

Ha! Isn’t it true how people tend to jump to those kind of judgments when it is not their own children? Of course, I find myself to be a highly-evolved and open-minded person and always try to reserve judgment in these cases – “Oh, I just feel sorry for the mom…” But, even I can admit that these thoughts have flashed in my mind sometimes.

What do you think of the quote from the movie? How often are you able to watch movies? Is it a god-forsaken miracle if you can ever watch an adult movie in one sitting and without falling asleep?

Ha! That quote is soooo true! We are lucky that the girls are now teens and we can mostly watch the same things. About a month ago,(I can't remember what we were watching, but I do remember it wasn't appropriate for the girls to watch)we were watching a movie, and wouldn't you know the girls kept going up and down the stairs so we had to keep pausing the movie....play/pause, play, pause. After about 5 times of that game we gave up!

I haven't rented a movie in ages. We DVR stuff and watch it in sections before falling asleep. It's a little sad that we can't stay awake past 10:00 p.m.

This is why both my kids go to bed at 7:00. So that I can watch movies! I saw this DVD the other day but didn't know what it was about. I'll have to watch it now.

I used to watch movies while Lil had a nap and I did the ironing. She doesn't nap anymore though. But I still have to do the ironing!

we're a blened family. We only let the teenager watch Pg13 movies, no Rs unless its been reviewed by us, first.

Bobina and I only watch movies we like when the kids are with their other parent types. I did go see Haywire - the Gina Crano action flick, by myself, while my women were out together. when my wife and I do watch movies, it's in stallments like the way you did.

I haven't see that movie. The quote is spot on with me. I have 3 girls and yet I find myself saying those exact words.

good psot

Hilarious!! I find the quote to be something I have struggled with. I tend to think poorly of the parents of screaming children in restaurants. Maybe it's because Jay and I had a pact to always leave if one started screaming. I cannot tell you how many times he finished his meal inside while I sat in the car waiting for the rest of the fam to finish.
I try to watch a movie every now an then. To be honest, with three monsters to feed and drive all over the kingdom to activities, I don't have enough time to watch anything in one sitting. I feel like I don't even watch TV shows in one sitting. I cannot tell you how much I love TIVO. :)

I'm not even going to pretend -- that quote could have come directly from me - I am totally that judgemental! Watching grown up movies or TV takes some effort

That quote is very true! I have felt that their hasn't been a lot of movies worth watching...and we use Redbox too!

HA! Watching an adult movie is almost unheard of! Especially if I pick a movie because of previous major mom fails...

I almost posted this as a Facebook status when I watched the movie . . . after buying it at the grocery store last night! It struck me as so, so very true. Also, I relate to the other part of your post. I got about 2/3 of the way through the movie before I had to pause it for the night. I forgot about it until just now, which means, I suppose, it's tomorrow night's entertainment. :)

I need to add that to my queue. I'm always in the mood for some crude humor.

Too funny, and yet it seems like my kids are usually the ones misbehaving. I blame it on temporary demon possession.

Hahaha! That quote is just so spot on. I'll have to see if I can get hold of that movie here.

We dropped Netflicks because a movie would sit on the coffee table for months before we'd get around to watching it...meaning it would have been cheaper to go see it at the theater!

My response depends on whether or not I'm PMSing.

I agree that we often judge parenting of others much differently than our own. I think though after the many years of parenting I have learned that it is better to assume that the kids are just hungry and tired :)

Oh my gosh! I could identify with your post on so many levels. First, I saw the movie and loved it!! It was nice to be able to watch an adult movie for a change...how did you like that "making an adult movie" skit? (Sure glad my stomach doesn't look quite like that.)

Okay, but we do the same thing in our house. It usually takes days, even weeks, before we're able to watch the entire movie. Sometimes it's my fault because I fall asleep...but I just can't help it...

Finally, I love the quote. I remember it now. So profound.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
