We are Allowed to be in Awe of Ourselves
I have been inspired. I have been inspired by a couple of different women this week.
You must check out an incredible poem written by one of my favorite bloggers, Kristin Brumm of Wanderlust. The poem is titled, "Woman, A History." What a tribute to women everywhere.
Also, The Mommyologist is hosting Embrace Your Body Week this week.
This link-up is all about sharing (through pic or vlog) something that you love about your body! Go give the ladies at The Mommyologist some support!
My gawd, we are women, hear us ROAR, for crying out loud.
Do you notice a theme here?
Yes, we are allowed to be in awe of ourselves.
I am in awe of myself. It is true. Not only do I have Mad Skills Mothering, but I got my butt out of bed this morning before work and worked out to Jillian Michaels. Then, I dropped the maniac at daycare, stopped at Starbucks, went to work and prepared for presentations I give tomorrow, stayed late for Meet the Teacher night, had already left instructions for dinner for the husband, and will hopefully get to enjoy my family and a glass of wine before I fall, exhausted, into bed tonight.
AND I took the time to actually tell you all about this, and link up to Mommyologist, and pimp out Wanderlust.
What’s that you say? I’m supposed to have a pic or video to accompany my Mommyologist linky-participation?
Well, I just can’t do everything.
How about I paint you a visual?
This morning, as I was grunting and panting and thought I was going to DIE (no, I was not in labor, I was working out with Jillian Michaels, remember?), I was on my 25th freakin’ jackknife ab move (because Jillian wants to kill me), and I thought that my calves looked kind of cute circling through the air.
In the early morning my ankles hadn’t swelled yet, and you know how your calves always look considerably better when they are sticking straight in the air? (Ummm, unless you don’t spend much time in that position. And, neither do I, GEESH! Only when I’m doing my sporadic workouts, I swear.) Well, anyways, gravity must be a good thing when your body parts are upside down. There I was, in my sports bra and ankle socks, and tenny shoes. I felt so…sporty. And, accomplished. And TIRED. In a good way. I guess.
So, I really didn’t care that much that my husband’s view may have been a jiggling butt while I “pretended” to jump rope (yeah, Jillian is THAT fun) or a bit of cellulite peeking through the shorts.
What I could see were cute little calves pumping through the air.
What I could feel was a heart that was beating strong and sweat that soaked my face.
I felt like a hunk-a hunk-a burnin' love (and, believe me, so did my abs).
Shout it to the world. Shout it to YOURSELF. What do you embrace about your body?

Yes, let's all live upside down. Our self-confidence depends on it! :)
Kristy--which Jillian do you have? Or do you have more than one? Up til last week, all we had was 30-Day Shred. Now hubs bought 2 more and I suck at them so far. Ugh....
You sound like supermom/woman to me. Who cares if you don't have a pic/vlog? I don't work outside the home. I don't know how you working moms manage it all. Kudos to you!
Jillian is the DEVIL! Try a Jackie Warner one, see if you swear more or less...or is that just me? I like to curse at the TV, it helps "feel the burn."
that poem! wow!
Don't you feel awesome when you really sweat? That may sound gross to some, but when I'm at yoga with sweat pouring off my body and I'm in some totally bizarre position, I feel so empowered. Often times, we don't appreciate how strong we are as women, and what our bodies are capable of.
LOVED this post. You rock!!!
I need a great workout DVD. Let me know which one you have. I have to say your header always makes me smile when I visit. I klnow I have said this already, but what a silly picture. It is great. Good for you for working out and accomplishing so much before your work day even started. Have a great night!
Mama Hen
I so need a workout DVD and I think I need me some Jillian Michaels. If it gets rid of my squishy bits as my daughter calls them then bring it on.
My hat is off to you superwoman, working out, going to work and all the rest of it? Superwoman you are, no cape required :-)
I love you. You ARE woman!
You know, I used to spend a lot more time with my calves in the air. Now that I'm getting divorced, maybe I'll get back to that.
Thanks so much for the pimp out sweetie. xoxo
Your calves? That is hot!
My cleavage, baby!
ROOOOAAARRRR!!!!
Nothing like working up a good sweat with your legs in the air...ooh err!
What do I embrace about my body? The fact that its all still glued together and working!!!
OK, I immediately had to lie down on the floor and stick my legs in the air to see if they looked better that way after reading this post. And, dang, they really do!!
You are hilarious. Love your writing style. And sweating is definitely a way to feel powerful in your own skin. Love it!
I embrace my...ummm.....hair? Does that count?
Sorry, I'm blogging pre-coffee today! Not sure that was quite a roar :)
I have a great butt and nice arms.
Good for you for working out in the morning! I always feel good about my body after I exercise.
I wonder if Jillian knows how many lady bloggers asses she kicks everyday and how many of us love her for it!
Yay for cute calves! Today I'm feeling good about my booty because it is looking high and round today!
I love my whole body, because I FINALLY - after babies and bulimia and looking at too many glamour magazines - know it inside and out. That's what makes a person radiant, attractive - being happy with who you are.
I know because I'm living out loud and finally writing - and using all that I know and love about the human body and some of its favorite moves in a fictional tale I'm posting about a wife-mommy like us who dreams of "going deeper." It's fun, familiar and at times dark and steamy - both to read and to write.
My own body... I have abs you could bounce a quarter off of and collarbones deep enough to hold water.
Hope you will take a peek at the story and give it a shout out if you like it. It's from the part of my body I'm most proud of - my head...

You have an award at my place, pop over!
Love it! Hmm something I love about my body? That is a tough question. These days, everything I have looks better if I turn it upside down, except for the boobs. hehe I have had the most difficult time with the whole aging thing to be honest and most all my body parts should be marked "ready for disposal" but I am still quite proud of my head and my heart...
Love and peace to you all!
Haha, I loved that! Good for you for working out so hard, AND for doing all that you do :)
That's awesome that you found something that you like about your body. It's easy to only notice the things you DON'T like about your body.
I figure pushing out three kids was the best show of embracing my body. That, and running two marathons. Strength is hot. Enjoy Jillian - she scares me!
Good for you Kristy! LoL You always crack me up. :)
You, my friend, rock. I don't think I can even utter the words Jillian Michaels at that hour. Thanks for the nudge though.
LOVE this post! Thanks for the "RAWR" :o)
Love the title of your blog, only wish I would have thought of it myself. Following you from Mamas Lil Chick. Great blog, I like your moxie.
Picture painted and seen....and I'm in awe! You are rocking life...and rocking your body! Awesome!
I keep hearing about Jillian workouts....I'm not sure I'm as brave as you to actually try one though!
I love the picture you paint. You sound amazing!
You are a rock star. Good for you at acknowledging all that you accomplish in a day and being proud of it, dadgummit! Being a working mother is HARD! HARD HARD HARD. You rock.
Saying hi back from SITS! Thanks for visiting my blog. Wasn't the ocean water in Mexico fabulous?
You've got me motivated to go get on my treadmill.
Gotta go ...
