You Can Call Me Chicken
It is a little scary to realize that more than once a day, I have this thought:
“I am a chicken with my head cut off!”
I am running around like a crazy person. I thought the word “maniac” applied mostly to my son, but I was sorely mistaken. It applies to me as well.
I don’t mean to complain, but, well, I am.
Too many days have strung together in which I hardly feel I catch my breath. (And, if that’s the case, then dammit, why am I not losing weight??)
When I get to feeling this way, I notice that there is also a progressive decline in my language expression abilities.
First, I say a lot of, “For crying out loud!”
Then, it turns into metaphor-speak. “I am a chicken with my head cut off!” and “I can barely keep my head above water!”
Then, I start speaking in broken sentences. “Where’s my…Oh, let me tell you…I don’t remember what I…Oh, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD…I am a chicken with my head cut off!”
Finally, it just all turns into cussing.
Believe me, the people who are close to me in daily life can hear me right now because this is exactly what I do.
I am past the point of, “Agh, Kristy, just have a glass of wine and maybe get some exercise.” (er, just not in that order.)
I am simply in need of REST. And sleep. And a little more room on my calendar. But, I honestly don’t see this happening any time real soon. So I just keep going. And going.
Like a chicken. With my head cut off.

I know that feeling. It's why I've taken this week off work to stay at home and just not think about work. Now if only I could find the right lottery numbers, I could extend the break out a bit longer....
I totally know that overwhelming feeling. Sadly, there is no quick fix. Take a deep breath and best of luck.
You and me both, chica. Here's to getting a good night's sleep real soon!
come away with me. leave friday xo
I understand half of that feeling Kristy.. except i dont have to manage a household and a kid.. i don't know how you guys manage.. hats off to you all mothers out there..
Yep, that sounds familiar! Make that rest happen, everyone needs a break - make it happen. I found myself responding to a moaning son who had just thrown his full lunch box across the garden in disgust, by shouting that "I can throw it further than that!" and then I threw it over the fence. Then I had to go and sheepishly ask our neighbour for it back, with my head down. Sometimes you just need a rest :-)
Singing my song, sister. Singing my song.
I agree with Glen. Give yourself permission to REST. If you don't decide to rest, your body will decide for you by shutting down. Just sayin' ...
Hee! This cracks me up! I can so relate!
I'm that chicken with no head too. You and I need a nice relaxing vacay.
Whew. Join the club-I brought doughnuts!
You are so very funny! Thanks for the LOL. Mom
oh my, i know exactly how you feel! some days i can't even remember how to put a sentence together! the words just aren't there!
hope you're able to get a little rest soon!!
Oh I know what you mean! It's kind of a relief I got sick, so I could rest a little, BUT somehow I am awake at 2 in the morning even with nyquil and everything! :)
This is about to be me since I'm going back to work tomorrow. Ahhh!
Oh I feel the same way Kristy. I'm especially guilty of not completing my sentences or finishing my questions. My husband HATES this since often he feels like he's the only one communicating. Too bad I often don't hear what he has to say either because I'm too busy finishing my own sentences in my head...
This is exactly how I have been describing myself this week! Funny! Here from SITS! Nice to meet you...
Ack, I know the feeling!
Oh, sweetie. So much stress....I think it's time for a vacation. I may have to insist on it. What about a Mental Health Day? Everyone needs a few of those...
Oh my gosh! I can completely relate to this! I told my dh not too long ago that despite all appearances I AM NOT THE ENERGIZER BUNNY!!!!
:P
